Are you preparing for the end or a new beginning?

Hello my fellow human Beings:

What does the date December 21, 2012 (or 12/21/12) mean to you?

Some may say, “It’s Winter Solstice”, “It’s the end of the Mayan Long Count Calendar,” or “It’s the end of the world.”

While others say, “It’s the commencement of the winter season”, “It’s the start of a new consciousness,” or “It’s the beginning of a New Age of spiritual enlightenment.”

An end or a new beginning?  How do you see it?

We all know that the Winter Solstice is the start of winter or “the shortest day of the year” or “the longest night of the year”.  It’s the end of one season and the start of another.

This year, 2012, Winter Solstice coincides with the end of the Mayan Long Count Calendar and the start of the New Year 13.0.0.0.0.

Doomsayers are spreading rumours of the end of the world on this date, but just as December 31, 1999 didn’t mark the end of the world in the Gregorian calendar when we rolled over into the 21st century, the rollover of the Mayan Long Count Calendar from 12.9.9.9.9 to 13.0.0.0.0 will not mark the end of the world.

On the other hand, New Age philosophers are stating that this date will mark the start of a new consciousness and a New Age of spiritual enlightenment.

Contemporary spiritual teacher, Eckhart Tolle, in his book A New Earth, writes about the collapse of the existing world order and the arising of a new world order – “a new heaven and a new earth” – and asserts:

“‘A new heaven’ is the emergence of a transformed state of human consciousness, and ‘a new earth’ is its reflection in the physical realm.”

These concepts of “a new heaven and a new earth” are based on passages in the Old and New Testament of the Bible (Isaiah 65:17 and Revelation 21:1).

So you have a choice, you can either prepare for the end of the world or the start of a new beginning.

If you desire, you can scour the internet for how to prepare for the end of the world, but I wish to focus on preparing for the start of an exciting new beginning – a time of spiritual enlightenment, a transformed human consciousness.

In order to prepare to be a part of a shift in consciousness, we need to be more connected to our True Selves, our Inner Being, our God within.  This means letting go of the grasps of the ego (little me) and its negative emotions and thoughts.

Breathe in and breathe out.

Breathe in the breath of life, breathe out and let go.

Let go of fear.

Let go of anger.

  Let go of worry.

Let go of doubt.

Let go of all your negative emotions and thoughts.

Instead, be still, BREATHE, meditate, connect to your Inner Being, open your heart and truly see who you are – an infinite source of peace, love and joy, connected to all Beings.  From this place of connection to the Universe, feel the emotions of unconditional love, unending joy, and infinite peace, and express loving-kindness, compassion, and unconditional love.

“Practice random acts of kindness and senseless acts of beauty.” (Anne Herbert)

Express gratitude for all the blessings in your life –small and large.

Just BE.

In this way, we become more connected to our higher consciousness…and if the doomsayers are right and the world ends, then at least we can say we spent our last days living life abundantly!

  1. Since the winter solstice is the shortest day of the year, I like to think of that as the gateway to spring and summer–my favorite seasons. I love the days getting longer. I love the extra sunshine, since in the Pacific NW, it’s so easy to have seasonal depression or at least the winter blahs. So the winter solstice is a happy, the-future-is-wide-open-and-bright sort of day for me.

  2. Hi Valerie,

    I choose a new beginning.

But not because any silly calendar tells me to. Only because I say so;  it is what works for me right now;  it is what I intuit is the right thing to do for my life, despite all the outside considerations and consequences.

Thanks for the opportunity to share that. Have a peaceful holiday, if that’s what you choose,

    Rob
